also known as Mike Moran, Michael R. Moran Co., LLC / L.P.A.
As a seasoned attorney, mediator, and jurist with over three decades of trial experience, I am pragmatic and efficient in solving my clients' problems. As a retired public servant and military officer, I am now principally engaged by clients in the private sector. I have an insider's skeptical view of "the system." I use a "team" approach to litigation, including the client, me as the "captain" of the ship, and a crew including paralegals, experts, and investigators. I will personally handle your case - no associates being trained on your dime. But, I am also very accustomed to working with in-house counsel and your personal attorney as co-counsel when desired and appropriate. I have a "particular set of skills" - I have prosecuted, judged, and defended all three types of litigation - criminal, civil, and administrative law cases. Having had this privilege to be so entrusted, is a rarity amongst most lawyers.
My judicial experience includes 25 years as a criminal court magistrate, and 10 years as chief counsel to the largest single-judge court in the State of Ohio. I have also served as a special master commissioner for that court and as a state administrative law hearing examiner. I have extensive experience as a corporate general counsel for a national tax consulting firm, a public commercial shooting range and training center, and a private security & investigation agency. I have started / run several small businesses, also counseling numerous clients who have done the same. With this background, I am a good business - executive consultant and coach for both start-ups and established business people. Despite working in the state capital, I practice extensively in rural Ohio, representing farmers, landowners, and small business people. I am a tenacious fighter for the underdog.
My trial, appellate, and litigation experience includes the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of Ohio, plus state and federal courts spanning all types of legal disputes. Despising bullies, I have prosecuted public corruption and eight figure tort cases. As a defense attorney on a team, I secured over a dozen alibi witnesses for a notorious quintuple homicide case in California. In 28 years as a part-time municipal prosecutor, I never lost a jury trial. I filed an amicus brief in the landmark District of Columbia v. Heller Supreme Court case, which recognized the Second Amendment as a fundamental individual right.
I like to learn and I'm working on getting wiser as I get older. Striving to be a serious student of the law, for the past 30 years, I have served as an author of a significant legal treatise updated and published annually. For over two decades, I was an adjunct law professor, and spent five years teaching in a graduate business program. I was a leader in the state bar association, creating and chairing the first administrative agency law specialist board. I have also educated diverse professionals - training and lecturing to statewide, national and international audiences, including lawyers, government regulatory officials, judges, business executives, healthcare practitioners, accountants, and law-enforcement firearms instructors.
Steeped in public service by my family, I recognize that to whom much is given, much is expected. Following their example, I've tried to pay it forward. I have devoted countless hours to improvement of the administration of justice by volunteering in various legal and related professional organizations. However, some of the most rewarding time has been away from the law volunteering in my community as a parent school chaperone, sports and mock trial coach, scout leader, guest speaker, camp staff, local official, gun safety, lifeguarding and first aid instructor, mentor to college and law students for internships, college alumni recruiter, public historian, state military officer, and good neighbor. I've provided pro-bono free and reduced-cost legal services to veterans, indigent people, nonprofit organizations, churches, and small government. These rich life experiences have made me a better person and advocate, by providing me a life away from the law.

Mike handled a personal injury case for me a few years back and did an excellent job, handled the case with the best possible outcome. I would also recommend Mike for any firearms cases; he's quite knowledgeable and is one of the nation's premier Second Amendment attorneys.

Hands down one of the best attorneys I've ever hired. Not only won the case but got my gun back.

I used Mike Moran in a employment relayed matter recently. He was discreet, professional and hard working. I highly recommended him and if he feels that your problem is not best handled by him he will guide you to resources that will.
"I have known Mike for nearly 20 years. I served as the assistant attorney general of his agency during his tenure as executive director. Since then, we have worked together on a number of cases. He is an excellent attorney, with an excellent command of both the theoretical and practical aspects of the law."
"I endorse this lawyer. We have been co mediating for over three years on a variety of probate matters. He is creative, even hand handed, fair, a great listener, empathic, energetic and results oriented."
"I worked with Mr. Moran as a mediator in probate court and he is knowledgeable and hard working. If you need an attorney who is experienced, knowledgeable, and fair, Michael Moran is an excellent choice."

Sheriff granted the appeal and voluntarily issued client concealed handgun license within three days of reviewing my Notice of Appeal.
Client acquitted at bench trial based on my motion at close of State's case.
Mediated the case to settlement approved by the court.
Agreed Judgment for Licensee - Court ordered client's license to be renewed.
Magistrate's decision dismissing all claims against client / defendant approved by Judge - no appeal taken by the State of Ohio.
Judgment for Respondent - the Second Amendment does protect an individual right.
In a related court case, we obtained key alibi witness testimony for client, but he was convicted by jury in underlying case of five counts of first-degree murder.
Seven figure settlement for family.
Legislature changed law the following year and created concealed handgun licensing.
Client bar association's recommendation upheld - application of law student rejected.
Subpoena issued by client agency was valid, trial court's judgment affirmed.
