Federal tort claim case against the Federal Aviation Administration for negligence of an air-traffic controller in causing a collision between a Japan Airlines 747 and a maintenance truck. The driver o ... f the maintenance truck was severely injured, but survived. The case was tried to Federal District Court Judge H Russell Holland who rendered a judgment in favor of the injured plaintiff of $4.9 million. Elliott Dennis was the plaintiff's counsel. The federal government appealed the case to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. After briefing, the case was settled for in excess of $4 million.
