August Tyler Johannsen

August graduated cum laude from the William & Mary Law School. He was a member of the Moot Court team and the William & Mary Law Review, which published his academic research on the laws prohibiting retaliation under Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

During law school, August worked in the William & Mary Office of University Counsel, where he worked very closely with the University Counsel on various employment law matters, many unique to a public institution of higher education.

In the summer of 2013, August worked at the USDOJ in the Disability Rights Section, where he worked with USDOJ attorneys to review and respond to claims of discrimination because of disability.

In the summer of 2014, August worked at the USDOJ Civil Rights Appellate Section, where he contributed research, policy insight, and argument development to multiple Supreme Court and Circuit Court amicus briefs dealing with employment laws, such as Title VII, the ADA, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, and the ADEA.

During college, August worked at a nonprofit organization in Southern California as a job coach, training adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in appropriate social and vocational skills and advocating for their employment rights. August graduated with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Admission to the District of Columbia Bar is pending. District of Columbia practice is currently limited to providing legal services to members of the public solely before a special court, department or agency of the United States.
