Michael James Thompson Jr

Michael Thompson practices in the area of litigation and his experience covers a broad spectrum of admiralty and maritime law, including personal injury defense, collision cases, property damage and loss of use claims, as well as charter parties, ship construction and repair contracts, vessel financing agreements, and contractual indemnity and insurance coverage disputes. He also represents construction contractors across a variety of matters including Louisiana and Mississippi construction liens, negotiating and preparing construction contracts, and other issues.

Mr. Thompson’s transactional work involves working closely with large and mid-size organizations to evaluate commercial goals and risks, and drafting and negotiating various operational agreements such as master service agreements, subcontract agreements and charter parties while working with legal, operations, and risk departments to maintaining desired liability framework and commercial terms. Mr. Thompson also assists clients in a range of operational issues from evaluating insurance coverage to coordinating incident response.

Mr. Thompson also has experience in appellate work including preparing appellate briefs and motions in both state and federal appellate courts.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Thompson earned his B.S. in Marine Transportation from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 1999, where he also served an as officer in the Corps of Cadets. After graduation, he began his career in the marine industry, serving as a deckhand aboard harbor tugs on the Mississippi River. As he gained experience, he worked as a mate aboard offshore supply and towing vessels and as a captain aboard inland and near coastal tugboats. He holds several U.S. Coast Guard licenses including a Master of Towing and First Class Pilot on the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
