I was born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Pascagoula, where I attended public school. My sister, Mary Etta, and I were raised by wonderful parents and grandparents and a supportive local community.
After getting my BA at Mississippi College, I attended Divinity School at Wake Forest University.
I served as a children's minister for several churches and worked as a summer chaplain at an orphanage. After seeing the challenges these children faced, I decided I wanted to be a lawyer so I could stand up for kids and families facing difficult legal situations. Because of those experiences, I went to law school at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. My first legal job was a child advocate for CASA, an organization that advocates for abused and neglected children.
While I have helped hundreds of people inside and outside of the courtroom, I am most proud of the work I have done on behalf of residents of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, who lost their homes during Hurricane Katrina, and the fishermen who lost their livelihood in the aftermath of the BP Oil Spill.
Faith has always played an important part in my life. Today, I enjoy teaching a weekly men’s Bible study and preaching whenever the opportunity arises.
My wife Laurie is a dietitian and we have two great kids—Ellen and Gray. I was raised on Southern Miss football so my family and I try to make as many Golden Eagle football games as we can. I'm also an avid Denver Broncos fan.
Serving my community is important to me personally, just as it is to our law firm. The people of Jackson County elected me to office and I proudly served in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 2008-2012. Currently, I am a board member for the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence and continue to work with candidates and campaigns as Executive Director of the Mississippi Democratic Trust.
