Joan Marie MacLeod Heminway

As a former (15-year) practitioner in transactional corporate and securities law, I teach law students the basics of business associations, corporate finance, securities regulation, and contract drafting.  I conduct research and publish written work in the same areas, with an emphasis on disclosure law and policy.

I also have an interest in the ways in which the law interacts with nonhuman animals and have taught courses and lectured on that subject.

In 2009, I attained full professor status and was named The University of Tennessee College of Law Distinguished Professor of Law.  In 2012, I was named the W.P. Toms Distinguished Professor of Law, and in 2016, I was named the Rick Rose Distinguished Professor of Law.  I served as Faculty Senate President for faculty members resident at The University of Tennessee-Knoxville, The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, and The University of Tennessee Space Institute for the 2010-11 academic year.
