I got assigned to Steve Erdely’s office through my legal benefits plan to set up an estate plan and a custom trust for my family. Since we needed some very specific exclusionary clauses and staggered trust payouts, I sent an email to his paralegal asking for a quick 30-minute intro call with Steve be...fore they began drafting boilerplate documents. I also wanted to confirm upfront that he actually had experience with this kind of trust structure. Instead of his staff acknowledging the email or trying to get me on his calendar, I heard absolutely nothing for over a week. When Steve returned from vacation, he emailed me directly. But instead of offering to schedule the consultation, he told me it's his policy "not to answer emails with numerous questions" because of his caseload. He then told me to find another attorney, claiming he doesn't do well with "impatient clients who make demands." Just to be clear, my only "demand" was asking for a standard 30-minute phone call to discuss our strategy before they started working. I never expected him to type out complex legal advice over email while he was out of the office. If you just need a basic, cookie-cutter will that a paralegal can fill out for you, this firm might be fine. But if you actually need an attorney to provide custom legal strategy and treat you with basic professional courtesy, I would definitely look somewhere else.
