Divorce and custody matters don't just change your legal status. They reshape your family, your finances, and your daily life. My job is to help you navigate that with clear eyes, a steady hand, and a plan that actually fits your situation.
I have been practicing law in Knoxville since 1997, and for the past several years, family law has become the heart of what I do. I handle divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, and division of marital property for clients in Knox County and the surrounding region. Some cases settle at the kitchen table. Some go to trial. I am prepared for both, and I will tell you honestly which path makes sense for yours.
I am also a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Family Law Mediator, which means I can help families resolve disputes outside the courtroom in a process that is private, faster, and gives both parties real control over the outcome. If you are an attorney with a client who needs a mediator, I welcome those referrals as well.
Clients tell me they value straight talk, responsiveness, and an attorney who stays calm when things get hard. I don't manufacture conflict or drag out a process to run up a bill. I lead clients to make their own choices, but with objective thought behind them, in a way that protects their long-term interests. My paralegal, Karen, is an essential part of this practice. Clients consistently mention her by name, and for good reason. Together we are known for being responsive, thorough, and genuinely easy to work with during one of the hardest seasons of a person's life.
I have spent my entire 28-year career at Hodges, Doughty & Carson, PLLC, a Knoxville institution established in 1931. This year marks the firm's 95th year serving East Tennessee families and businesses, and I am proud to have been part of that legacy for nearly a third of its history.
