Ineffective Counsel

Walter "Butch" Johnson spent less than 2 hours when speaking with the client who was on trial for 1st degree murder. He led the client to believe he had nothing to be concerned about. When it came time for the trial. He did not call any of the witnesses the client had repeatedly asked him to. He bare...ly cross examined the prosecution's witnesses and made no effort to even attempt to present a defense on behalf of the client. He was contacted on several occasions about meeting with the client and several points that should have been further investigated and refused to acknowledge or even listen to concerns that have been brought to his attention. He did not even do the bare minimum in regards to building a defense or even having the client undergo any testing or evaluations even though the client had been deemed completely disabled by the United States government and been in and out of psychiatric institutions for well over a decade. If Mr. Johnson was not confident he could have at any time passed the case up and allowed someone else who wasn't pressed for time and also more zealous to actually defend the client however he continued to show absolutely no efforts to help exonerate the client who is now sentenced to 60 years and if no appeal and or retrial is given will never be free. There was evidence that was completely swept under the rug. I know this has been not only an eye opener highlighting this communities lack of adequate legal representation but also a pure lack of empathy for those who are falsely accused and or a chance to clear their names. When your attorney does nothing to represent you and or defend you exactly what do they expect a jury or judge to conclude. I feel this inadequate and sub par representation literally cost this man his life. Walter should ultimately be ashamed to even consider himself the lawyer on record for the defense due to this travesty with justice. The saddest part of all is the DNA doesn't match the clients however since he is in prison and found guilty our government will not look for the true killer.

Walter "Butch" Johnson

This man is a legend in the courts. He fought for me & genuinely cares. He gets down to the nitty gritty details of things & isn't afraid of the DA's. Always answers his phone, no matter when you call him. Very knowledgeable & trustworthy. As long as you're straight up & honest with him, he will do w...hatever he can to make sure you're taken care of. He has recently had some health issues, so I think he's about to be done with his career in the courts. The young man he is "training" now will hopefully listen to every word of wisdom this man gives him. If he's half as good as Butch, he's doing great!!
