My Client's son transferred schools in order to graduate early, bu ... t CIF (the California Interscholastic Federation) demanded more than just the straightforward transfer requirements from My Client in order to declare their son eligible to participate in sports. After extended arguments, I was able to get CIF to declare My Client's son eligible to play in his final semester. Often, what appears to be a straightforward process is complicated and frustrating. Here, My Client was smart to bring me in early on in the process rather than fighting against a negative ruling.

Once an athletic career has come to a close, everything for the athlete changes. This includes finances. I worked closely with a former NFL All-Pro to negotiate a loan to help him with some business ... investments he was looking to make, that would generate income for him and his family for the long-term. In order to make sure the loan he was seeking was appropriate, we checked his current finances, future income ability, his personal status (home, family, etc.), and took a 360 degree view of his life to ensure that he was able to use the money properly and make the payments on the note once he received the money. We determined the loan was a solid investment for his future, and after discussing the idea with his first-rate financial advisor, we negotiated terms that made the repayments easier, and less expensive than initially believed. Initially we believed a 6 month repayment was proper, but because of the terms I was able to negotiate, my client was able to repay the loan in full in 90 days, saving himself additional money!

Annual reviews of your business are critical to make sure your legal strategy for the year fits your business. Working with a boutique bookkeeping firm, I quickly saw that the firm's strategy needed to ... change because of a few new products and services that were being offered. During the 3 hour review of the 7 parts of the firm's business, I flagged 4 areas that required substantial updates/changes. I worked with the managing partner of the firm to help implement easy to understand principals and updates to the firm's contracts and transaction policies to provide a strong layer of legal protection. Within two weeks of implementing the new legal strategy, it paid off for the company when a client became the focus of an investigation. The firm was able to keep itself from holding a portion off the liability directly from one of the newly instilled policies.
