also known as Mark J. Downton, Mark Downton
Mark graduated near the top of his class and hit the ground running representing regular people in courts throughout Tennessee. Mark's first job as an attorney was with a general practice firm, where he gained experience in a variety of areas but particularly family law (divorce) and personal injury matters. He then worked for an insurance defense firm, handling litigation from the side of the insurance companies and gaining valuable insights into their practices, and even taking, and winning, a case in the United States Supreme Court.
In 2006, Mark opened his own firm, and has handled all kinds of civil litigation since. He has particular experience in civil rights litigation fighting discrimination in employment and constitutional violations by the government, and he continues to handle personal injury and business disputes.
Mark earned a payment of over a million dollars for a client in 2014 in a whistleblower action under the false claims act, and negotiated a settlement for a minority owner in an LLC for over a million dollars in 2015. Mark enjoys protecting the rights of the vulnerable, and loves turning the tables to make the little people wealthy in the process.

Mark Downton went above and beyond on our case. He took the time to talk to us put together all the details, and build a strong case. He was honest in telling us what to expect and how the legal system works, and did not sugar coat anything or promise something that he could not do. He has compassion...
"I endorse this lawyer. Mark is an excellent advocate for his clients in Juvenile Court. I have seen him work hard in those cases with great success. He never stops fighting until all opportunities, including appeal, are exhausted."
"Mark is an outstanding litigator and is one of the best civil trial attorneys I have encountered whose professional skills and demeanor I truly admire. This is why I wanted to work with him in the first place. No matter how large or small, Mark takes each case seriously, shows up for every hearing ready for battle, and drafts complex legal pleadings that are second to none."
"Mr. Downton is the classic triple threat for an attorney. He's intelligent, charming, and persuasive. The relentless approach he adopts to advocate on behalf of his clients is enviable and unmatched. I have become a better attorney for working with, and against, Mr. Downton in the Court room. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking legal counsel in the Nashville area."
