Herman Delmas Padgett

Herman D. Padgett was born in Los Angeles, California.

He graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He majored in political science with a minor in history.

In 1977, he earned his Juris Doctor law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. He was admitted to the Alabama State Bar that same year. He is a member of the deGraffenreid Inn Chapter of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity.

In 1978, he received an L.L.M. in taxation from the University of Florida. While pursuing his L.L.M. degree his master’s degree thesis was “The Income Taxation of Bankruptcy Estates”.

Since returning to Mobile in 1978, he has continuously practiced law. He is admitted to practice in the Southern and Middle District Courts of Alabama, the 5thand 11thCircuit Courts of Appeal, the United States Tax Court, the United States Court of Claims and the United States Supreme Court. He has also served as a Chapter 7 Trustee. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and the National Assocation of Chapter 13 Trustees. He is a life member of the University of South Alabama Alumni Association and the University of Florida National Alumni Association. He is on the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Mobile West.

Mr. Padgett is a frequent attendee at bankruptcy meetings and seminars throughout the United States. He has traveled to Washington D.C. to lobby for new bankruptcy laws to help Debtors facing foreclosure. On May 6, 2017, he was awarded the K. Colleen Nunnelly Award by National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys for his leadership, enthusiam and contributions to their mission.

Mr. Padgett enjoys traveling and has visited many countries around the world.
