Posted by Will | January 18, 2026 | Hired Attorney | Lawsuits & Disputes

It felt as if he ghosted me after taking two months and one day to answer my question.

In my opinion, Mr. Charles Ellzey was worse than the problem I hired him to fix. Communication was extremely poor. The longest stretch without a response was two months and one day before he answered an email. During that time, phone calls and text messages went unanswered. There was another period ...of silence lasting about three weeks. At our first meeting, he told me my case was important and that he would need to push other cases aside to get mine filed that week. Based on that representation, I wrote him a check. After the check was cashed, I felt like I was pushed aside for the next check. Weeks passed before the case was actually filed. He took actions that we had specifically discussed not taking, and in my view those actions appeared designed to end the case as quickly as possible. Because his retainer was non-refundable, the less time he spent on the case, the more favorable that was to him. Most concerning to me, he raised or pursued settlement discussions with the defendants without my permission and before conducting discovery, despite our prior agreement that discovery would be done first. The lack of communication caused significant stress. There were nights I lay awake genuinely wondering whether he had taken my money and disappeared or died. I searched news reports for unfortunate events. At one point, he stated that his son was hospitalized for weeks. However, public posts by the child’s mother showing the child returning to school suggested otherwise. In my opinion, the seriousness and duration of the illness were greatly exaggerated. Even during that three-week period of complete silence, I believe he could have sent at least a single text message to let me know he was still handling my case. The next eight-plus weeks of total silence only proved to me that the first incident was not a fluke. This is my personal experience and my opinion. I encourage anyone considering hiring Mr. Ellzey to contact him directly and hear his side of the story before forming their own conclusions. I genuinely mean that—ask him.
