Stressful, Regretful, and Expensive Mistake!

If you're someone familiar with the legal system—maybe someone who's been in and out of court—this firm may work for you. But if, like me, you're a professional with zero court experience, newly divorced, and dealing with anxiety, uncertainty, and fear for the first time, I urge you to look elsewhere.... During our initial meeting, she raised the firm’s hourly rate by $25. I had called her office earlier to inquire and was quoted a lower hourly rate. When I pointed out the discrepancy, she chuckled and said, “You got me.” Not walking out then is something I’ll always regret--I was never taken seriously. I submitted months of documentation with zero acknowledgment. No strategy, no communication, no preparation. I didn’t hear from her until the day before trial and that was 5ish in the evening. The trial was a disaster. Her courtroom performance lacked confidence, structure, and clarity. After the 1st day of trial, while walking to our cars, she asked, “How did I do?” I didn't have the heart to say, train wreck! I knew we’d lose, and we did. To be clear, I’m not saying the case was lost solely because of her. But having her represent me brought no strategic legal advantage. I might as well have stood alone. After the verdict it was silence: no debrief, no follow-up, no check in...NOTHING! Just a last-minute email a day or two before the appeal deadline. The hubris of that email said everything. Why would I—of sound mind and body—ever want her representing me again? Nope! I wouldn’t trust her with a parking ticket. Sadly, I agree with the losing verdict.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
