Unprofessional

Michelle Stewart asked me to call her in a week to check on the status of my case. When I did, the lady that answered said that Stewart was not in the office and I would have to set an appointment. After I kept pursuing a conversation with Stewart, due to the fact that she told me to call, I was put ...on hold several times. Finally Stewart, who was supposedly out for the day, answered the phone. She was very rude and told me that I needed to be nice to the person that answered the phone. I was being persistent about talking to Stewart knowing that I was getting the run around. This was proven when Stewart came to the phone who was supposedly out for the not and not be able to call me back for a day or two. She told me that my case would may be dropped but I would have to call back in another week. I asked if I had to schedule an appointment since that is what the lady that answered the phone repeatedly told me even though I was told to call back to check on the status of my case, which is what I was doing. Stewart said that I wouldn't even get to talk to her when I called. Why would I want to talk to anyone besides the person that is handling my case and responsible for maintaining my innocence and freedom? Stewart told me that if I wanted to know sooner than the following week if my case was dropped that I would have to go to the courthouse and find out. I asked, "Don't you work in the courthouse?" She responded yes. I asked, "Can't you just go and find out?" She responded that she was not there to run errands for me. I was under the impression that she was there to handle the specifics of my case. My question is, what is she supposed to do? She will not find out the status of my case and won't even speak to me about it on the phone. Well, I rode my bike to the courthouse, since I don't own a car, and found out myself that the case was dropped. I am not sure that she even did one thing for my case at all. When you avoid your clients and refuse to go down the elevator to find out where their case stands, you fail to serve your clients properly in my eyes.

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
