Melisa Lee Militello

Melisa L. Militello, based in Inverness, Florida, focuses on Criminal Defense, having handled cases throughout Central Florida for more than 27 years. Born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, she moved to Florida at a young age and graduated from Hernando High School. Melisa went on to earn a B.A. in Criminology & Law and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida and is a recognized Gator enthusiast. Her career began as an Assistant State Attorney in Citrus, Sumter, and Marion Counties, where she prosecuted a wide array of cases, including felonies and juvenile crimes.

After her role as a prosecutor, Melisa joined the Florida Foster Care Review Project to advocate for foster children. She later established a private practice in Inverness, focusing on Criminal and Family Law. In 2010, she joined the Offices of the Public Defender, handling over 3,200 criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. Melisa's extensive courtroom experience covers jury trials, pretrial motions, and constitutional issues. In 2016 she opened her law firm of Melisa L. Militello, P.A. practicing in criminal defense. Her firm also practices family law. Renowned for her courtroom proficiency, she effectively tackles complex issues like unlawful search and seizure.

Melisa’s background as a prosecutor and legal instructor enriches her ability to evaluate cases thoroughly. She is actively involved in the Florida Bar and other organizations, and she takes pleasure in traveling, cooking, and family life. Her office is located near the old Courthouse in Citrus County.
