Cody was born and raised in Manatee County, Florida. He graduated from Bayshore High School in 2004, Manatee Community College in 2009, and University of South Florida in 2013 with honors. He attended Stetson University College of Law on an academic scholarship, and earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2016.
Following his graduation from law school, he began working as a family law attorney for Gulfcoast Legal Services. During his time with GLS, he provided free and low cost legal services to hundreds of clients, the majority of whom were victims of human trafficking and domestic violence. He would go on to become the Supervising Attorney for the Manatee Family Law Project.
His work at GLS lead him to a realization. Family law litigation is very hard on families. The trauma and pain experienced by his clients lead him to begin exploring alternative, less traumatic methods for resolving family law cases. He wanted a client-centered approach that allowed for the ability to address the typical issues involved in a family law case, while also maintaining the flexibility to address aspects of mental health and complex financial issues. The collaborative law process was the solution. He formed Coastal Collaborative Family Law as a way to present an alternative to his clients.
Outside of work, Cody enjoys reading, cooking, catching up with friends, and spending time with his family.
Cody lives with his wife and four boys in Manatee County.
