My brother and I drove from SC and NC respectively to assist our mother through a bankruptcy. She was frightened and upset. Having met with Mr. Hollander before and not understanding all that was said to her, we offered to meet as a group with him on a Friday morning. Upon arrival we were greeted b...y a young man at the front desk who was disheveled and said they were short handed. When Mr. Hollander came to greet us, my mother introduced us. Mr. Hollander rolled his eyes and said, "good for you". I was totally taken back. Thinking he just might be joking, we were taken to his office. Things proceeded to get worse. mr. Hollander continued to make demeaning, rude and sarcastic remarks to my mother, brother and myself. He actually indicated that if we continued to ask questions that we were wasting his time. At this point my brother asked how we were paying him if we were wasting his time. Mr. Hollander got very angry at the question and said that we could find another lawyer then. My mother was so very upset and tried to apologize to him. My brother and I were disgusted with this type of rude, demeaning and arrogant behavior that we happily left. I did tell my mother in front of Mr. Hollander that you should not apologize for someone else's poor behavior. We were able to connect with a fantastic law firm in the area who saw us that afternoon. They treated us respectfully, with customer service and a professionalism that makes the profession proud. My grandfather was a criminal attorney and I was a former court stenographer in NYC. I have never come across this type of behavior and was totally appalled. The client was in need of support, not to be demeaned in this awful manner. Sarcasm and rudeness when someone is seeking and paying for your assistance is totally inappropriate. In speaking with others in the community about this encounter it was mentioned that this encounter was a typical experience.
