Posted by Patricia M. | May 10, 2013 | Chapter 13 Bankruptcy

Not recommended for bankruptcy

Retained her services to process a chapter 13 and save home. After taking $1500 and telling me I could afford the chapter 13 independent of my husband's short term disability income since he was not named as a co-borrower in my debt, after cashing my check her paralegal informed me that I would have ...to use my husband's temporary income to calculate bankruptcy payments and disposable income. When I told her that his temporary income would not be available for the five year agreement, she proposed that when that happened, she would take an additional $750 from me to convert to a Chapter 7...which would result in losing the home I was trying to save. She doesn't seem to be very knowledgable about Bankruptcy law...But definitely knows how to deposit a check from a struggling homeowner.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
