Incompetent and Legally Incorrect Advice I consulted Attorney Sean Lopez regarding an HOA matter involving Riviera Golf Estates. The HOA adopted an amendment stating that only one person may live in a home unless the second occupant is a spouse, domestic partner, or significant other, explicitly p...rohibiting platonic roommates. This restriction directly conflicts with federal and Florida fair housing and anti-discrimination laws, which prohibit housing discrimination based on sexual orientation, marital status, and relationship type. Despite this, Attorney Lopez advised me that the HOA could “create any amendment it wants” and that such an amendment would override federal and Florida anti-discrimination laws. This statement is flatly incorrect. HOA covenants and amendments cannot supersede federal or state law, particularly civil rights and fair housing protections. When I challenged this advice, it became clear that Attorney Lopez either lacks a basic understanding of fair housing law or was providing reckless guidance. Because the advice was fundamentally wrong and unusable, I requested a refund of the $295 consultation fee for incompetent legal advice. This experience wasted my time and money and could seriously mislead clients facing discrimination issues. I would not recommend this attorney for HOA, civil rights, or fair housing matters.

If you are looking for the worst lawyer in Florida this guy is your man. He did absolutely nothing for me after I paid a retainer, was extremely arrogant and rude to me and disappeared for days, never returning phone calls and then schooling me on not sufficiently understanding his office procedure.... Consequently, I fired him, was compelled to hire another attorney and he refused to refund any portion of my retainer. His conduct rises to malpractice.

Even when the property owner l...ashed out personally at Sean, he kept his cool and stuck to the facts. After weeks of back and forth, Sean recovered most of the money owed to us. It was obvious he put in many more hours than he likely initially intended and more than we actually paid for. We couldn't have been more grateful. In addition, everyone we encountered in his office was kind, respectful and unfailingly polite.
