Natalie Anne Roberts

I grew up on Indian Bluff Island in Palm Harbor, Florida. After attending Tarpon Springs High School, I attended Emory University, obtaining a B.A. in History.  At the University of Florida Levin College of Law in Gainesville, Florida, I received my J.D. During law school, I clerked for Phillips, MacFarland, Gould and Wagstaff, and estate planning firm in Clearwater. 

 

Following my graduation from law school, I became a member of the Florida Bar.  I began my career as an Enforcement Attorney for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Miami Office, where I was promoted to Branch Chief within two years. I then worked for a private, boutique securities litigation firm in Fort Lauderdale, before taking time off from my career to be a "stay-at-home parent." During that period, my family and I lived in Litchfield, Connecticut, Roseville, Minnesota, and for another year in Fort Lauderdale, before settling in Edina, Minnesota.

 

Once my youngest child headed off to college, I made the decision to return to my career. I took and passed the Minnesota Bar Exam in 2010. I first worked for the Minnesota Department of Commerce, where I designed and implemented the State of Minnesota's first investment adviser compliance examination program. I also drafted some proposed legislation and assisted in its successful passage by the Minnesota Legislature. Subsequently, I worked briefly as a compliance consultant to S.E.C.-registered investment advisers and broker-dealers in London and Zurich, before returning to Florida to work for the Florida Office of Financial Regulation, Division of Securities.  As the Area Financial Manager for the Tampa Region, I led a team of compliance examiners in auditing state-registered broker-dealers and investment advisers. My responsibilities included hiring, program management, supervision, training and editing written reports of examination for submission to Tallahassee. 

 

In 2015, I decided to return to the practice of law. I applied and was accepted to the selective Master of Laws (L.L.M.) in Taxation program at the UF law school, where my coursework focused on federal tax law relating to estate planning, estates and trusts, and gratuitous transfers, as well as general business tax. After finishing the program in 2016, I decided to open Flagship Law, my own estate planning and tax law firm, located in Tampa, Florida.

 

I live with my husband in South Tampa where, outside of my career, I enjoy tennis, golf, pilates, yoga and working out in the other interests include politics, art, art history, literature, history and travel. I am devoted to my extended family and appreciate the critical importance of nurturing and preserving our close family relationships.
