Philip Louis Colesanti II

Philip L. Colesanti is Senior Counsel with Alvarez, Thompson, & Smoak, P.A. in their Tampa office. His practice is focused on complex civil litigation cases, involving personal injury, wrongful death and general insurance defense, with a focus on commercial transportation defense and commercial premises litigation.
Mr. Colesanti received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Central Florida in 2009. Thereafter, he received his Juris Doctorate from the Florida International University College of Law in 2012. While in law school, Mr. Colesanti served as a student attorney in the Family and Children’s Advocacy clinic. He also served as Attorney General for the university-wide FIU Student Government Association.

Prior to joining Alvarez, Thompson & Smoak, P.A., Mr. Colesanti began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender with the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s office. There, he honed his advocacy skills, trying more than 30 jury trials at the misdemeanor and felony level. Most recently, Mr. Colesanti worked for a state-wide insurance defense firm litigating bodily injury/uninsured motorist claims and premises liability claims. He also handled first-party automobile suits involving Florida’s No-Fault Law and windshield claims with a focus on SIU/fraud related matters.

Mr. Colesanti is originally from New Jersey but grew up in the Tampa Bay area. Now he lives in Tampa with his wife and their son. Mr. Colesanti is an avid fan of the Bay area’s sports teams and the UCF Knights. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family exploring all the city has to offer. ​
