Jim Freeman received his undergraduate degree, with high honors, from the University of Florida in 1975. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Boston University School of Law in 1978.
Mr. Freeman began his practice in the trial section of Shackelford, Farrior, Stallings & Evans, P.A. in 1978. In 1980, he joined Shear, Newman & Hahn, P.A. and eventually became a shareholder and member of the Board of Directors of Shear, Newman, Hahn & Rosenkranz, P.A. Since 1999, Mr. Freeman has been with Wilkes & McHugh, P.A., a national, full service, civil litigation law firm.
Mr. Freeman has represented families in cases involving: elder abuse and neglect; car, motorcycle and truck accidents; medical malpractice; defective products; and other cases involving catastrophic injuries. He has achieved several multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements for the firm's clients, including a $65 million verdict in a trucking case that was listed as one of the Top Ten verdicts in the nation in 2009.
Mr. Freeman is licensed to practice law in Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee and Pennsylvania. He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court of Appeals - Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, the U.S. District Courts for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi, and the United States Tax Court.
In addition, Mr. Freeman has served on the Health Law Committee and the Code and Rules of Evidence Committee for the Florida Bar. He has also served on the 13-F Grievance Committee and he is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Court Civil Mediator. Mr. Freeman has also lectured at risk management seminars and CLE programs on medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, dental malpractice, and legal malpractice.
