Erica Irizarry

I am Erica Irizarry, a Florida-licensed criminal defense attorney and the founder of Irizarry DUI and Criminal Defense, PLLC, serving clients throughout Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, and Polk Counties in the Tampa Bay area.

My path to criminal defense is different from most. Before founding my own firm, I worked on both sides of the courtroom — first as an Assistant Public Defender defending clients facing charges ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies, and then as an Assistant State Attorney in Hillsborough County's 13th Judicial Circuit prosecuting a high-volume caseload that included DUI, drug offenses, battery, theft, and traffic crimes. I have tried bench and jury trials, argued motions to suppress, handled bond hearings, conducted depositions, and negotiated pleas — all on both sides of the aisle.

That experience gives every client I represent a direct strategic advantage. I know how prosecutors evaluate cases, what evidence they prioritize, and where cases can be effectively challenged. I use that knowledge every day to fight for my clients.
I defend clients facing DUI, drug possession, drug trafficking, assault, battery, domestic violence, theft, burglary, violations of probation, and felony charges of all kinds. I also handle estate planning — wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives — and uncontested family law matters throughout Tampa Bay.

Before law school I served 15 years as a United States Army Captain. The discipline, attention to detail, and commitment I developed in the military are qualities I bring to every case I handle.
