Fred A. Schwartz

Fred A. Schwartz has a distinguished and lengthy record as a prosecutor and defense attorney in both criminal and civil trial matters. Currently serving as partner in charge of the Boca Raton office of the Florida firm Kopelowitz Ostrow, Fred A. Schwartz oversees cases involving a variety of issues, with an emphasis on white collar crimes and protracted commercial civil litigation matters. Mr. Schwarz joined Kopelowitz Ostrow following practice at other private law firms in Florida and as a federal and city district prosecutor.

After earning his juris doctor from New York University School of Law, Fred A. Schwarz started his legal career working in Kings County, New York. He moved to the district attorney’s office in Queens, New York, where he worked in the trial bureau, the narcotics bureau, and the rackets bureau. Mr. Schwartz’s work in Queens led to an appointment with the Federal Organized Crime Strike Force in Florida. During his federal tenure, Fred Schwartz served as both acting and deputy attorney in charge of the strike force.

Since leaving the federal law sector, Mr. Schwartz has focused his attention on private law practice. He has served as a partner with several Florida firms, working as a defense attorney involving federal criminal trials and on commercial civil litigation issues before joining Kopelowitz Ostrow.

Mr. Schwartz is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, and the South Palm Beach County Bar Association.

Mr. Schwartz is very active in educational affairs in Florida.  He has been an education adviser to the Florida House Majority Leader, the cChairman of the Boca Raton Educational Advisory Commitee, the Chairman of his children's  School Advisory Counsel. Further, he has represented education professionals in matters involving the Palm Beach County School District.
