Akilah Angelique Harris

Akilah is very sharp and mythological. Once I paid the retainer, I didn’t hear from Akilah so I figured she was just too busy to answer any of my questions. I noticed that she invoiced me for communication emails yet there was ZERO communication between she and I. Instead of working through disagreem...ents that she may have with my choice of gentle parenting, she threatened me with the courts taking my children away and blamed me for my fear of my ex husband. She questioned my integrity and when I refused to accept her dismissive behavior, she claimed that I wasn’t receptive to her counsel and withdrew herself from my case. She pressured me over and over to sign a consent form so she can be relived of representing me. To anyone who is dealing with any form of domestic abuse, I would not recommend Mrs. Harris-Small. All the things survivors of domestic abuse fear, will come true once Akilah represents you. She reinforced my fears that no one will believe me. She insisted that there was so evidence of abuse so the courts will take my kids away if lose her as my attorney. I begged for her empathy and advice but she responded with judgement and dismissive replies ; I questioned the quality of her service so she quit my case telling me I will be handling my case on my own. Survivors, protect yourself because trusting someone like Akilah can set you back in your attempts of gaining independence from your abuser. Akilah may not realize the damage she does by telling a victim that their concerns are not valid, but I would advise anyone who fears for their safety to not hire Mrs Harris to be their advocate.

I won’t go into details, but I will say that my experience with Akilah was so bad, that I actually cried when I had to pay our final bill. There was one hearing which I attended with her which left me speechless because she basically just let me be punished for something I absolutely did not do — and... when it was her chance to speak, she just accepted the punishment instead of investigating, asking me, or anything. Akilah doesn’t realize how much that hearing affected the rest of the history of litigation (I hired a new attorney after this incident,) but I was shocked that she could just let me down so much. I regret hiring her and I hope she one day realizes that her clients lives are in her hands and mine has been altered forever by the lack of representation I feel I received.

I hired Ms. Harris to assist me with my Child Custody Case. The mother of my daughter took her to another state, without my knowledge or permission. Given the fact that, there were unresolved child support issues, the mother of my daughter was represented by attorneys from the Division of Childre...n and Family. Despite the extensive resources of the State of Florida, Ms. Harris prepared my legal position and effectively argued my case to a successful conclusion. I now have full custody of my daughter, and a very fair time sharing arrangement, and I am now entitled to receive child support payments, instead of having to pay. I admire her knowledge of family law, hard work, tenacity, and persistence, as most men in Florida do not very often win these cases. I would highly recommend her services. Michael
