The driver's insurance company also attempted to downplay the significance of the cyclist's injuries, but the Bay Area Bicycle Law team was able to show that there was no exaggeration on the part of the cyclist and that the cyclist's injuries were indeed serious.

Around 10 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2013, plaintiff Erika Prieto was riding her bicycle near Broadway and Stockton in San Francisco, when she was struck by a Yellow Cab Company taxi operated by Abdulraheem Aljun ... aidi. Prieto sustained injuries to her head and left knee. We alleged that Aljunaidi was negligent in operating the taxi and that Yellow Cab Company, Aljunaidi's employer and owner of the taxi, was vicariously liable for Aljunaidi's negligence. We contended that Aljunaidi failed to keep a proper lookout and attempted an unsafe and reckless U-Turn without signaling. Defendants denied that Aljunaidi had failed to keep a proper lookout and denied that that he had made an unsafe or reckless U-Turn without signaling. Defendants contended that Prieto had, herself, caused the accident, because she did not have a light on her bike.
