Dr. Richard S. Gendler received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in psychology from the University of Hartford in 1989. Thereafter, Dr. Gendler earned three law degrees including a Doctor of Juridical Science (J.S.D.) from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. The J.S.D. is the Ph.D. equivalent for law and is the most advanced law degree in the United States. Additionally, Dr. Gendler holds a Masters of Laws (LL.M.) from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from the University of Miami School Of Law.
In Addition to practicing law, Dr. Gendler serves and an adjunct professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law where he teaches a graduate level course on Consumer Bankruptcy. Dr. Gendler also routinely teaches continuing legal education courses on topics related to consumer bankruptcy for Strafford Publications. Dr. Gendler presently serves on the Florida Bar Federal Court Practice Committee.
Over the years Dr. Gendler has been interviewed by all of the local major television networks, including ABC Channel 10, NBC Channel 6, CBS Channel 4, Fox Channel 7, Telemundo Channel 51 and Telemiami Channel 22. His commentaries have also been cited to in the Miami Herald, EL Nuevo Herald, Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, New Times, and the St. Augustine Record.
Dr. Gendler’s bar admissions include the Florida Bar, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Tax Court. Dr. Gendler is licensed by the State of Florida as a 2-15 life, health and variable annuity agent and is certified as a Master Financial Planner by the American Academy of Financial Management. Dr. Gendler is also an appointed title insurance agent for the Old Republic Title Insurance Company.
Dr. Gendler's present and past affiliations include memberships in the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Southern District of Florida, the Miami-Dade County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, the North Dade Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, Stewart Title Insurance Company, Attorneys Title Insurance Company, Fidelity Title Insurance Company, Attorney's Mortgage Services, the National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors and the Miami-Dade Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.
