Long Drawn out Probate process

I hired Mr. Hickey for my complicated probate case because at the time of my Fathers death he was the Family Attorney and I was assuming he was the best . I was totally wrong I spent 4 years in probate/appeals court and my co-heir and I did ALL of the research and leg work and information gathering c...oncerning the parties fighting me for my inheritance .He was never in the office or could he be reached by phone or email . His assistant and secretary answered all of the questions we had as best as they could . My co-heir and I found information that he knew nothing about and he said he didn't think we needed it but in fact was very crucial .We Won the probate only to have it appealed and again we were the ones fighting and gathering paperwork some of which we were told by him wasn't important and we need not bother when in actuality it was very important. My co-heir found information and evidence we needed to use in court that again he said wasn't important but led to many hidden factors in our case and became very useful in winning our appeal . The most disappointing and heartbreaking fact is that all of the evidence we provided *boxes and boxes and boxes * of paperwork ,photo's and personal items were "lost" I made several calls asking where the things were. I finally got Mr. Hickey on the phone personally and he told me that the boxes were in a basement in a courthouse . He never made any effort to try and get my memories back nor did he give me any information so I could try myself. I won't recommend his services to anyone for the simple fact that he doesn't follow through on anything and I believe if he'd have listened and responded it would have saved a lot of blood sweat and tears

Stay away

Worst lawyer I have ever dealt with. I hired him and fired him a month later. He was totally unprepared and billed me a lot for job he totally screwed up.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
