My experience with Sonja Jean was deeply disappointing. Family law cases are emotionally difficult, especially when children are involved, and I expected care, clarity, and advocacy. Unfortunately, I often felt that her financial considerations were prioritized over my concerns as a client and over w...hat I believed was in my child’s best interest. Communication felt limited, and billing was not always clear or predictable. Instead of feeling supported during a critical time, I felt added stress and uncertainty. This experience fell far short of what I expected from professional legal representation.

I am writing this review based on my personal experience as a former client of attorney Sonya Jean. I previously hired this attorney and paid for her services in my divorce and custody matter. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I already left a negative review before, but it... was removed, and I later received an email stating that my review was dismissed. I am aware that multiple negative reviews (over 10) were also removed around the same time, which raises serious concerns about transparency for future clients. From my experience, the case was consistently prolonged, with no meaningful progress toward resolution. I felt that there was no real urgency to resolve the divorce or custody issues efficiently, even though doing so would have been in the best interest of the child involved. Instead, the process continued as long as payments continued. In my opinion, the focus appeared to be on billing rather than problem-solving. I did not feel that my concerns—or the emotional and financial impact on my child—were treated as a priority. I felt like a source of ongoing fees rather than a client whose situation needed a timely and fair resolution. I am posting this review again in hopes that other former clients will also share their honest experiences, so future clients can make informed decisions. Legal matters involving children and families are too serious to be treated as a business strategy. This review reflects my own experience and opinion. Others may have had a different experience, but I believe potential clients deserve to hear all sides before hiring an attorney.

I hired Sonya Jean with the understanding that she could help me appeal a final judgment in my case. She promised that she could handle the appeal, and I paid her fees based on those assurances. Unfortunately, it became clear that these promises were overstated. My appeal was denied by the appella...te court, and I was left feeling that she had taken my money without delivering the results she promised I feel that she over-promised and under-delivered, and that her actions seemed more focused on collecting fees. I am sharing this experience so that potential clients understand that my case did not proceed as promised, and I felt taken advantage of financially. Please consider this carefully before hiring.

I am writing this review as a former client of Sonja Jean / Davis Smith & Sonja Jean, LLC, based solely on my personal experience. Unfortunately, I strongly do not recommend this attorney and encourage others to avoid retaining her. From my experience, there was little to no genuine concern for the ...well-being of the child involved. Instead of working toward a fair and timely resolution, the case was unnecessarily prolonged. Numerous motions were filed that, in my view, were excessive and unnecessary, resulting in escalating legal fees with no meaningful progress toward resolution. It felt as though prolonging the divorce — rather than resolving it — was the priority. Communication was poor, guidance was unclear, and I did not feel that my interests or my child’s best interests were being protected. Rather than helping move the case forward efficiently, the approach appeared to generate mounting legal costs that reached thousands of dollars. When hiring an attorney, especially in family law matters involving children, trust, integrity, and genuine advocacy are critical. Based on my experience, those expectations were not met. I regret retaining this firm and would strongly advise others to carefully consider alternative representation.
