When my disability claim was denied for vague, inactionable reasons and the inscrutability of my disability insurance company's appeals process finally drove me crazy, I did a google search for disability lawyers and by a stroke of luck connected to Kevin Schaefer. In talking to Kevin on the phone I ...realized how much sunk into questioning myself and my illness due to the awful treatment I received from the claims manager and her colleagues. Kevin gave me actionable strategies and advice and even more importantly simply made me realize I didn't have to question myself or try to sound more convincing or try to come across as more believable--that I had a right to receive this benefit because I was in fact sick and unable to work. It is rare to find such humanity in the legal world. His soft spoken manner was not equal to his strength as an attorney in this very difficult field of appeals. Despite not believing I would win any appeal, Kevin never gave up on trying until he got something for me. If he didn't recover, he certainly wasn't going to walk away from the table without giving all he had in his knowledge and grit....mostly his strength as an attorney, clearly doing a job he has a passion for.
