Cynthia Barnett Hibnick

I am a civil trial attorney with over 32 years of legal experience.  I am AV-Preeminent® rated by Martindale-Hubbell. This rating signifies that my reviewed peers rank me at the highest level of professional excellence for my knowledge, communication skills and ethical standards. I have also been named as a Florida Legal Elite™, a designation representing fewer than 2% of all active Florida Bar members who practice in Florida. I have a wide variety of litigation experience on both the plaintiff and defense side. I have tried cases to jury verdicts in state and federal courts throughout the State of Florida.

For the past ten years, my litigation practice has been largely devoted to representing health care providers and affiliated entities, physicians, nurses, physician practice groups, practice management companies, risk retention groups, and malpractice insurance carriers in health care litigation, peer review defense, medical malpractice and related claims. This includes defending these clients in regulatory and administrative cases involving Florida DOH and the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).  I also regularly represent health care facilities, substance abuse facilities, and medical billing companies in defense of audits and contractual claims.

I have educated medical directors, physicians and residents, both nationally and locally on recurring medical/legal issues, litigation avoidance and how to proceed once sued. I have been invited faculty to the behavioral health and substance abuse industries thought leaders seminars and have also served as invited faculty to teach litigation skills to attorneys.

I obtained my law degree, cum laude (with honors), from the University of Miami School of Law in 1983 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude (with high honor) in English, from the University of Miami in 1979.
