Marc A Weinroth

As a member of Jones Day's Business & Tort Litigation practice group, I litigate commercial disputes and have in-depth experience defending clients in class actions and multidistrict litigation. I handle all stages of the civil litigation process and utilize a practical approach informed by my own in-house background to help clients navigate complex issues from both legal and business perspectives.

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2017, I served as assistant general counsel for three years at the University of Miami, where I oversaw litigation and transactions in a variety of areas, including managing the day-to-day Athletic Department legal portfolio. I defended challenges to the collegiate amateurism model and football concussion protocols; negotiated and drafted a variety of agreements including sponsorships, naming rights, multimedia rights, and coaching contracts; and led internal investigations involving potential NCAA rules violations.

Previously, I practiced for seven years in the complex commercial litigation group at an international law firm in Miami, where I represented Fortune 500 clients in contract disputes and bet-the-company cases involving alleged violations of antitrust law, RICO, and unfair trade practice statutes. I worked on teams that successfully defended a major health insurance company and its affiliates against claims they engaged in nationwide conspiracies to suppress reimbursement rates.

I have spoken extensively on NCAA issues and taught a sports law course as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law. I also am active in pro bono organizations, having served as a special assistant public defender to indigent clients through the Ensuring Equal Justice Initiative and as a Guardian ad Litem through Lawyers for Children America.
