Liah Catanese is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Catanese began her career in the public sector where she interned with Senator Hillary Clinton in New York, working on immigration and refugee cases, and also served on the Gubernatorial Race in Kalamazoo for Jennifer Granholm, the first female governor of Michigan. Ms. Catanese also worked for the Immigrant Women Program of NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund in Washington, D.C. In the fall of 2004, Ms. Catanese began law school at the University of Miami where she was one of nineteen students in the state of Florida chosen as a Florida Bar Fellow. As a Fellow, Liah Catanese was assigned to The Lucha Project at Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center in Miami. The Lucha Project provided legal assistance to victims of violent crimes and victims of human trafficking. Out of the nineteen Fellows, Ms. Catanese was one of two students chosen to be a Florida Lawyers' Legal Insurance Corporation (FLLIC)-funded recipient.
During Ms. Catanese’s second year of law school, she applied and took a position in the Community Health Rights Education Clinic. As a clinic member, Ms. Catanese assisted in drafting an HIV policy for the public school system and helped qualify underprivileged families for healthcare benefits. Ms. Catanese also served as the Vice President of Miami Law Women, and created and directed for the first time in the history of the organization, an Art Gala and Silent Auction entitled, Rebirth: A Child’s Artistic Quest to find Release, Identity and Vision. The Gala was a fundraising event featuring the artwork of girls living in the foster care system. That year, Ms. Catanese was awarded the H.O.P.E. Award for completing over seventy (70) hours of community service. Liah Catanese graduated law school, Cum Laude, in 2007 and joined the law firm of Alan Goldfarb, P.A.
As a practicing attorney, Ms. Catanese is a member of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Miami-Dade County, the Dade County Bar Association and the Florida Justice Association. She concentrates her practice on premises liability, products liability, toxic tort, environmental issues, construction issues and other negligence. Ms. Catanese continues her dedication to public interest work and utilizes her rich background in traveling and the arts to apply a creative approach to trial practice.
