Lauren Beth Shapiro

I'm not sure if Lauren is a good attorney or not. We never got that far. But I'm disappointed by her billing practices. I spent a mere 10 minutes in her office and after a brief introduction we came to a mutual decision that her services would not be compatible with my needs. However, she withheld $3...50 from my retainer for what she calls "on boarding" According to Lauren, on boarding is writing the engagement letter. In my experience, that is her internal business. Writing her engagement letter is hardly considered doing legal work for me or my company. Even if she felt the need to charge me for the 10 minutes or so, fine. But how did she come up with the round number of $350. We agreed to $550 per hour for legal work. Is that just some random amount that she felt she deserved? That is the disappointing part. She basically withheld funds from my retainer in an amount she felt was fair. But it was contrary to our engagement letter and our fee agreement. In my opinion, Lauren Shapiro does not exercise “billing judgment”. But better to find out upfront for a small amount than later for a small fortune.
