I highly r...ecommend everyone to fight back when your security deposit is unjustly kept if there were no damages and your rent was paid up to date. Reasonable wear and tear does NOT come out of your deposit. The none refundable pet fees were meant for deep carpet cleaning the landlord has to do after move out. Don't hesitate to ask the "littleguy". He can work anywhere in the state for you.

I had some issues with my landlord waiting 5 months before making any claim on my security deposit, and at the end of the 5th month she decided that her claim would be for all of it. I reached out to the LGLF and they reviewed my case and provided a very courteous discussion about what my rights we...re and what I would need to submit to them to further my case. As I reviewed the documents they asked me to provide, I came across a point in my lease agreement that quite clearly stated they had 30 days to make a claim after I left, or they cannot make a claim against my deposit. I had read prior to this discovery the Renter's Rights law in Florida and sent it to the landlord, but I don't think she took it seriously until she saw that she had signed off on that very document. Ultimately, I did not have to move forward with the legal case as my landlord provided me with my full security deposit. However the guidance provided by the LGLF was instrumental in causing this favorable outcome. Although I signed a document indicating I would hire them for their service and could have pressed on with the case, they politely indicated that our relationship was terminated and I would not be charged anything. All in all, it was a great experience with kind and concerned people who I am sure all too often have to deal with landlords of questionable repute. I would recommend this service to anyone who has felt they have been wronged by a landlord.
