Yes you can travel outside the country. Normally travel up to 6 months is not a problem. From 6 months to a year they can start asking questions....

You should have D/S stamped on your passport. So as long as you are in school you should be ok. If you have to travel after the actual visa...

That should not give you problems, just be ready to prove that you meet the 125% of the poverty guidelines when you are ready to petition your mother.
