Shockingly Bad!!!

He is (was) my court appointed lawyer. He never contacted me (I'm not incarcerated) he waived all my rights to speedy trial without consent. His secretary told me for months, "ohh nothing is in your case file, just wait we’ll call you". I asked for my case file so far, and again was told, "nothing th...ere". James Lason was hiding my case file from me. I was told to appear one day as James said, "for just pre-trial stuff", before I knew it the trial was set for 13 days later. I had witnesses, evidence etc... all ignored and not entered. I went to his supervisors, thank god they listened, thank god they looked into my file and thank god they saw problems and had him remove himself. I now have new counsel who looked into my file and saw very little done. He went to court and was told by state attorney that there were in fact depositions taken. These depositions were not documented anywhere in my case file, they were hidden by James Lason from me and even new counsel. James Lason as well refused to deposition a witness that would have helped my case after she spoke to him and he hid her wanting to help from me as well. I have a complaint at the Bar. I hope like the supervisors at the Public Defenders Office they look into this matter. At all times James Lason was not forthright with me, did nothing to develop my case, kept my case file from me and was rushing me into a trial with no evidence entered that would have helped me. When I interacted with him he was always rude to my face, and I’m not the only one. The criminal division I’m in is the one where last year a criminal Judge “Murphy” attacked a Public Defender “Weinstock” for defending his clients right to speedy trial. Lawyers like James Lason have no problem providing ineffective council, as it is part and parcel of the very culture of this Court to do so it seems and is expected unfortunately as well it seems.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
