Joseph Brent Smith

J. Brent Smith has been a practicing trial lawyer for 16 years. During his career he has litigated cases in multiple states including Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Texas, Illinois, Oklahoma and California. He is licensed to practice law in four states and has been admitted to practice in multiple Federal Jurisdictions.

He has litigated a broad range of cases including medical malpractice, nursing home, products liability, intellectual property, pharmaceutical mass torts, consumer class actions, commercial litigation, and anti-trust class actions.

In 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, Mr. Smith was selected by The National Trial Lawyers for inclusion in The Top 40 under 40. The National Trial Lawyers: The Top 40 under 40 identifies individuals younger than the age of 40 that exemplify superior qualifications, trial results, and leadership as a young trial lawyer. Selection is based on a thorough multi-phase process which includes peer nominations combined with third-party research. In 2019, Mr. Smith became a member of The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100! This is an invitation-only organization composed of the premier trial lawyers from each state or region who meet stringent qualifications as civil plaintiff and/or criminal defense trial lawyers.  In addition, Mr. Smith is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell, a testament to the fact that his peers rank him at the highest level of professional excellence.

Mr. Smith has obtained many multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements for his clients, including his first million dollar verdict at age 26 assisting the founder of Bounds Law Group, J. Clancey Bounds. Mr. Smith was named in Verdict Search’s Top 100 Verdicts of 2006 involving a $25,000,000 patent infringement jury verdict.

Prior to joining the Bounds Law Group, Mr. Smith worked for several years in the banking and financial industry and then spent 7 years with the nationally-renowned Maher Law Firm (formerly known as Maher, Guiley, and Maher) devoting the majority of his practice to personal injury, wrongful death, class action litigation, complex commercial litigation, and products liability.

Mr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in finance, from the University of Florida in 2000 and thereafter obtained his Juris Doctorate degree cum laude from Stetson University College of Law in 2004.
