The trial record on my website shows that I could have 7 "Hat Trick" awards from the local attorney groups for each time I obtained 3 consecutive acquittals. "Hat Trick Awards": If you have seen this noted on an attorney's site, local criminal bar associations around the State give awards out to their members whenever one of them achieves the rare result of getting 3 consecutive acquittals. This is a rare event, and some attorneys apply for these "Hat Trick" awards if they achieve it. As my trial record on my website shows, there have been 7 times where I have achieved 3 consecutive Not Guilty verdicts. There is nothing wrong with applying for and noting the award, as it is a rare event and the attorneys I have seen receive them are all very good lawyers. I just have never applied for one any of the times it happened.
In addition to 25 years experience as a trial attorney, I have written dozens of appeals in courts across the State, several of which have resulted in reversals and published opinions. You can also see a complete list of my trial and appeal records on my website.
I am NOT a Former Prosecutor - I have been defending people my entire legal career and have built a reputation for standing up to injustice. As the notation "cited for misconduct" illustrates: A few years back, when Broward Judge Aleman tried to reduce to 1 week the amount of time defendants got to prepare for trial after Arraignment, I objected on the record like everybody else. But, the Judge's policy continued.
With the 1st Amendment by my side, I exposed this policy on a blog popular among the legal community, using language that was intended to capture the public's attention [which you can read about on the front page of the Sunday NY Times (Sep. 13, 2009) ]. I signed my real name - rather than hide and post anonymously as most attorneys do, as I knew doing so would draw more attention to the problem. By using my name, I was later singled out by the Bar and reprimanded, but not before the Florida Supreme Court weighed in, even asking for briefs on "whether attorneys play a critical role in exposing valid problems within the judiciary".
Judge Aleman's policy changed back to normal almost overnight and the judge was later reprimanded by the Supreme Court for what was termed "arrogant, hostile and impatient" conduct for threatening to hold two lawyers in contempt in the middle of a trial.
Keep in mind, there are those lawyers who use the word "aggressive" in their ads ... and then there are those lawyers who actually are.
Any attorney can "say" they have experience. Be sure to ask any attorney you are considering for a complete record of their trial experience. This could be the most important decision in yours or your loved one's life.

Don't believe these five star reviews!
I had to ask the judge for a speedy trial since Sean didn't want to go to trial after almost a year. I made it crystal clear before I hired him that I was innocent and I would not plea guilty to anything. He did not depose a cop listed as a witness even though I asked him to do so several times ove...
None of these facts sound familiar ...(for example, judges cannot hear motions from represented defendants so it wouldn't even be possible for a client to "ask the judge for a speedy trial"). My only guess is that it must be a competitor with too much time on his or her hands. Click on my Trial and Appeal records on my website to see if I am an attorney who goes to trial.

Very helpful
Mr. Sean, helped me and guided me to another attorney. He sent out the letters om my behalf and he did everything in a good timely manner. We either spoke on the phone or via email. He was always available. I never had to jump thru many hoops to reach him. He even worked on my case after hours. I ...

Finally a lawyer that actually care about you.
Sean Conway handled my early term on probation, my friends dui vop, and another buddys divorce. All of which have come out perfectly in our favor. Sean advised me in the mistakes that were made in my previous case, for example I had right for self defense when I got in a fight even though I threw t...

Very proffessional and communication was outstanding.
From the first meeting with my case, I felt so comfortable. He always kept me in the loop thru out the whole process. Sean Conway is a great passionate lawyer.

First Class Attorney
I find Sean Conway to be an extremely competent attorney who exhausts every avenue possible when handling your case. He is thorough and works harder for his client than any attorney I have ever had dealings with.
"I endorse this lawyer. Sean will vigorously fight for you and leave no stone unturned in your defense. He cares about his clients and will counsel them straight forward about the law."
"From what I have read about this attorney he does not back down to anyone and fights for what he believes is just. We need more people like him in this profession."
"I highly endorse Sean. Anytime I get a criminal case I refer it to him with no hesitation. From trial through appeal he is the one to call."
"I endorse this lawyer's work, but not Avvo's rating system--the rating assignment is indicative of Avvo's lack of due diligence in assigning a rating: Sean made the front page of the New York Times for the reprimand matter and his case was a matter of much dialogue by the Supreme Court over the issues of Free Speech--the matter was in no way related to his work or professionalism. He is among the elite criminal lawyers in Broward County."

Public Reprimand issued in FL, 2008
updated on 04/02/2012Public reprimand means the attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The Bar warns the lawyer in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.
“Reprimanded for comments made about Judge Aleman on a blog, an issue that made the front page of the New York Times, Sunday Ed. as it was one of the 1st times a lawyer's free speech rights were tested. The judge was setting trial 1 week after arraignment, in what I viewed as an attempt to get people to waive their speedy trial rights - so I wrote about it on a blog, not afraid to sign my own name to it.”
