Death penalty case where defendant was charged with two counts of Aggravated 1st Degree Murder. The State alleged defendant had shot two people in the back of the head three times each during a drug d ... eal in a vehicle. After a 61/2 week trial, the jury was deadlocked as to guilt or innocence, and a mistrial was declared. Defendant was retried without the death penalty as a potential sentence and the jury again hung on the guilt phase. The state offered two counts of manslaughter with credit for time served, no additional jail time and no probation, which the client accepted pursuant to an Alford plea and was immediately released from custody.
