Manuel F. Alvarez is a partner in the Pensacola office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. He has focused on workers’ compensation defense for over 22 years and has extensive experience defending insurance carriers, third party administrators (TPAs), self-insureds, the state of Florida, county agencies, and professional employer organizations (PEOs) Mr. Alvarez is an accomplished trial lawyer with extensive knowledge of the medical aspects involved in every workers’ compensation claim. He has extensive experience handling catastrophic injury cases and complex cases involving repetitive trauma injuries, brain injuries, permanent total disability claims, occupational exposure cases, and fraud. His experience includes developing aggressive and successful defenses to fraud claims; moreover, for over two years, Mr. Alvarez handled insurance fraud cases while serving as a State Prosecutor in Miami.
Previously, Mr. Alvarez served as a former police officer in Daytona Beach and former deputy sheriff in Orlando, Florida. He also previously development a program of instruction for training police SWAT teams throughout Michigan on behalf of the Michigan Army National Guard Counter Drug program.
Prior to joining QPWB, he was a partner with a Florida law firm where he was the Managing Partner of the Workers’ Compensation Division in the Pensacola office.
Mr. Alvarez is a commissioned officer of the United States Army Reserves. He served two tours in Iraq: Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn. He served as an Infantry Officer embedded with the Iraqi Army and the Iraqi Army Infantry Battalion as their U.S. Army Operations and Maneuver Advisor.
As part of the United States Forces, during his second deployment, he supported the U.S. State Department’s Provincial Reconstruction Teams throughout all 16 provinces in Iraq. As part of other military assignments, he trained military forces in various South and Central American nations in the areas of human rights, and law of war.
Some of Mr. Alvarez’s military awards include: the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medals. He also received unit awards consisting of the Presidential Unit Citation and the Joint Meritorious Unit Awards.
Mr. Alvarez received his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1996 and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Central Florida in 1990.
Mr. Alvarez is licensed to practice law in Florida. He is a member of The Florida Bar and Escambia-Santa Rosa Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and U.S. Supreme Court.
He is a frequent speaker and lecturer on workers’ compensation law at various accredited seminars throughout Florida and is a certified lecturer by the state of Florida for insurance adjusters’ CEU credits.
Mr. Alvarez is fluent in Spanish and has basic communication skills in Arabic.
