James David Smith

J.D. is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as a Business Litigation Specialist, receiving his law degree from the University of Florida in 1990. His principal practice areas include construction law, business law and intellectual property litigation.

Prior to entering  law school, J.D. earned his M.B.A. degree from Louisiana Tech University, and worked for General Electric and W.R. Grace in marketing, manufacturing and finance. 

A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1977, J. D. spent six years on active duty flying the B-52 bomber. In 1983, J.D. joined the Air Force Reserve flying the AC-130 gunship at Duke Field, FL. From 1998 to 2002, he commanded the MC-130 Combat Shadow squadron at Eglin AFB, FL.  He is a veteran of Operations Desert Storm, Uphold Democracy,  and Joint Endeavor.  In September 2011, J.D. was mobilized for Operation Enduring Freedom and he commanded special operations aircraft flying combat missions in Afghanistan.  In 2002, he commanded the 321st Air Expeditionary Wing in Oman. J.D. retired in 2007 as a US Air Force colonel.
