Joint Custody

I was going through a custody battle for my daughter at the time and did not have much money. My boyfriend at the time sold some of his personal belongings to hire this attorney. Mr. Black did not communicate with me well at all. I did not even know the date of my first appearance. The second time I ...was to show up in court Mr. Black did an okay job pleading my case and I was awarded 50/50 custody. Within a week I was evidently ordered back to court for an emergency hearing due to an issue with our testimony and was never even notified by this attorney. Mr. Black did not even show up to that emergency hearing. I now am only allowed visitation rights every other weekend and have to pay my daughters dad child support. After that emergency hearing the court ordered me to obtain a valid drivers license and to secure a GED within a year in order to have my 50 percent custody rights restored. Well I never heard anything back from Mr. Black and was not aware of these conditions. Now it has been over a year and I am stuck with an order that states I only get to have my daughter every other weekend and I am ordered to pay her dad child support.

Custody

I hired this attorney for a custody dispute for my daughter. My daughter has been with me since birth. My attorney suggested that I ask for 50/50 custody considering the circumstances so that's what I asked for. I feel like I deserve more time with my daughter than what the court ordered. Mr. Black w...as attentive to my issues but the process was slow. I felt like I was walking into the court room blind. I received the results I asked for but I feel like I should have been awarded more time.

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
