John Matthew Merrett

I am a court room lawyer, principally interested in cases that will go to trial. I served approximately 6 years as a prosecutor, 6 years as a Circuit Judge, and have spent about 15 years in private practice.

As a prosecutor I handled cases ranging from DUI to Racketeering to Murder. As a Judge, I presided over felonies, juvenile delinquency and dependency cases, family law matters, and domestic violence injunctions. In private practice, I have handled innumerable cases including divorces, child custody cases, criminal defense, and personal injury suits.

I work with the assumption that every case is going to trial. A client may of course settle at any time, but need never do so out of fear that I am unwilling to try the case to a verdict.
