Following several years at the Public Defender’s Office, Gene developed a private law practice focusing on civil and criminal litigation. While continuing his representation of criminal clients, Gene expanded his law practice to include the representation of physicians, corporations, and business professionals while with the local firm of Bullock, Childs, Pendley and Reed, and then with the statewide firm of Wicker Smith.
For the last twenty years, Gene’s legal practice has focused on DUI defense, family law and personal injury. In this practice, Gene learned the art of helping people start new beginnings when substance abuse had taken over. Gene also continues to practice civil and commercial litigation, representing local businesses in their various litigation needs.
For the last ten or so years, Gene's legal practice expanded into helping individuals with their family law issues. After years of assisting folks in trouble, it was a natural progression to continue to help entire families find solutions to their problems. Gene handles all forms of family matters including divorce, child custody, alimony, and property distribution issues.
Gene has been presented as a legal expert by multiple news outlets, including WJXT Channel 4 discussing various criminal and civil issues.
Gene is the father of eighteen year old twins. His wife, Caroline is a Jacksonville native and is a real estate attorney at Landmark Title and a former law professor at Florida Coastal School of Law. awsome lawyer that really cares about what happends to you!
Mr. Nichols is the best lawyer one could ask for. I went to him with a charge that has a mandatory jail sentence. My daughter was just born so I was scared to death of leaving my wife and her alone. When I talked to him for the first time I could tell he knew what he was talking about and he was very...

"I have known Gene for more than 15 years. Besides the fact that he is a nice guy and well liked, he is also known in the legal community as being extremely aggressive and prepared for any hearing or jury trial - every time."
"Mr. Nichols is one of the most professional and knowledgable attorneys I have ever had the pleasure of representing a case against."
"Gene is a principled, ethical, and highly skilled attorney whose knowledge and abilities in his practice areas are superb. I have referred a number of clients to Gene over the years and will continue to do so."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have know Mr. Nicols for 13 years and have always known him to be a man of integrity, and a refined attorney."
"I first met Gene as a young prosecutor in county court. He represented many people I prosecuted for DUI and did so with a level of skill matched by very few defense attorneys. Whenever I saw Gene's name on a new case, I knew that no stone would be left unturned. I've also served with him on our high school alumni board for a number of years and have gotten to know him and his family on a personal level. I would, without a doubt, recommend him to anyone needing an experienced DUI attorney."
