I have called multiple lawyers (6 or 7) in DeLand to find someone to take my case. I even contacted WFTV Ch 9 investigative reporting. All to no avail. No one would investigate and give me any details on the merits of my case. I was going to go to small claims court. He advised me at no charge o...f the following: 1. I hired an unlicensed contractor, how was a private resident of Deltona 2. The man owned a house 3. He built a wall improperly. No hole with cement to secure the columns and no gap between the columns and panels to allow the wind to go through 4. I spent $16,000 Plus on it 5. When I asked if it would hold during a storm he responded "This fence won't fall". Advice: The amount of money is not that much over the small claims court limit. The man has a house in Florida but it is probably under the homestead act. What that means it is protected from any holds a court might put on it. So, even if I won the case I probably would not be able to collect. I have no idea if he has any other assets or not. This input explained why no one would investigate or take the case. I did not understand- but I do now. i can move on with the removal of the fallen wall. Oh, by the way, I had payed him $3500 prior to the falling, and he wanted at a minimum another $8000 to finish it before it fell. He was working up estimates to fix it. He wanted $4000 just to clean up the mess. Of course he would not refund the money given to him prior to the falling of the fence even though that was for work TBD, not for past work.
