CASON CHANDLER SWAN

Cason has spent a lifetime in the law. His father and his stepfather are practicing attorneys in South Georgia, and he spent many of his after-school and summertime hours answering phones, running errands, and learning first-hand the ins and outs of the practice of law. Summers working on the farm and stacking cattle feed bags convinced him that a career behind a desk was preferable to a lifetime of manual labor, so when he graduated from Valdosta State University in 2009, he immediately left for law school at Florida Coastal School of Law.

During his time there, Cason focused on diversifying his experience. He spent 3 months as a law clerk for Superior Court Chief Judge Bill Reinhart in the Tift Judicial Circuit. This experience helped him narrow down his career choices, and gave him valuable insight into litigation from behind the bench. He also worked for two large personal injury firms with very different litigation strategies, one focused on getting high-value cases, often from other firms, with the goal of large trial verdicts. The other focused on getting as many cases as possible through advertising, and keeping costs down at trial. Through this experience he learned how to maximize the amount of money that a client receives for their personal injury claim, based on the individual circumstances of each claim. In 2015, Cason returned to Valdosta to take a job as a public defender. He wanted real courtroom experience, and the Office of The Public Defender is a sure-fire way to get it. During his 13 months in the Valdosta Office, Cason developed his own methods for pursuing a criminal case, and had success in felony jury trial and numerous bench trials.
