Bungled our lawsuit. Betrayed a confidence.

Mathew McCoy took our lawsuit and thoroughly bungled it. When he couldn't be bothered to clean up the mess he'd made of the details of a settlement offer, he passed it off to his most inexperienced associate, who decided he had more sympathy for our opponent than for us, and admitted to having had nu...merous DIRECT personal conversations with. Also, we had asked specifically for confidentiality on a particular point, which the associate completely ignored, and shared the info with the opposing attorney. Hiring this guy was a bigger mistake than hiring the people we ended up suing. It's telling that when we declined to pay our final bill, citing some of the above, they didn't protest much. Just sent an email" "never contact anyone at my firm again..." Not a problem... Perhaps these lawyers will work harder on a bigger case, or for a company, but if you're an individual, you can probably do a LOT better.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
