Scott Akin

As a self-represented individual between September 6, 2021, and October 30, 2021, I hired R. Scott Akin, a California-licensed attorney based in Chickamauga, GA, to review a draft legal complaint. This review was to include grammatical edits as well. Upon completion of the evaluation, R. Scott Akin r...ecommended that the whole needed to be rewritten; needless to say, his constant yelling. So, we agreed that R. Scott Akin would rewrite the draft complaint, and specifically perform legal editing/legal writing, etc. But again, not without the client constantly getting yelled at. When the draft complaint was completed, R. Scott Akin produced a work full of grammatical errors, unnecessary spaces and spacing, missing State codes or statutes, erroneous State code or statute, missing case law, etc. Concerned by all of the grammatical errors in the draft complaint R. Scott Akin rewrote, I went to the extent of purchasing a 1-year Grammarly premium subscription, for $144.00. In light of all that I've briefly explained above and for which I approached R. Scott Akin about, he always had a way of 'explaining away' his shortcomings. For the sake of time, I just want to conclude by saying that I'm in the process of retaining another attorney to review R. Scott Akin's original work, and extras that I was compelled to add due to them being deliberately omitted by R. Scott Akin. I will not be hiring R. Scott Akin again, period!

There are many great things I could say about Scott, but the first one that comes to mind is his flexibility--that is his willingness to adapt his service to our specific needs. My partner is applying for a green card based on same sex marriage, and we needed time to get the application fees together.... Scott was willing to begin working on the case before we had the funds. We were slow moving on finding all the supporting documents and filling out the paper work, and he never gave up on us even though we took longer than most people. He encouraged us to finish without ever being over bearing. Also, he was very professional and thorough. A lot of the job , of course, involved pouring over paper work, and he spent a lot of time on it, especially considering we hadn't paid him anything yet. He even drove from North Georgia down to Atlanta to meet with us when we needed to set down together to go over papers. We got better service than we would have probably received from a more expensive lawyer. I highly recommend him.
